About the authors

Dr. Tom Hsu is nationally known as an innovator in science education and has worked with more than 15,000 teachers over the past twenty years. The author of six science programs in physics, physical science, and chemistry, Dr. Hsu also invents unique lab apparatus for teaching and learning. As an educator, Dr. Hsu taught high school physics as well as graduate and undergraduate courses at MIT, where he was nominated for the 1991 Goodwin Medal for excellence in teaching. He holds a Ph.D. in applied plasma physics from MIT and previously worked as an engineer for Eastman Kodak and Xerox. Dr. Hsu was the founder of CPO Science and is a cofounder of Ergopedia, Inc.
Dr. Manos Chaniotakis, the cofounder of Ergopedia, Inc., is a former professor at MIT where for 18 years he developed and taught innovative, hands-on courses. A strong believer in doing science to learn, he enjoys teaching high school science, which he does at every opportunity. An expert in scientific instrumentation and control systems, Dr. Chaniotakis’ designs for analytical chemistry sensors and meters are used by major companies worldwide. His vision for Ergopedia is to harness technology to create learning systems that unify curriculum, experiment, and teacher training. Dr. Chaniotakis holds a Ph.D. in plasma physics and fusion engineering from MIT.
Dr. Michael Pahre is an astrophysicist, formerly with the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory for 14 years, known for his research on elliptical galaxies, galaxy evolution, and infrared astronomy. Always interested in physics education, Dr. Pahre first taught high school physics as a Peace Corps volunteer in Ghana. He is the co-author of more than 150 research papers and the recipient of the 2001 Trumpler award for the outstanding doctoral dissertation in astronomy in North America. Dr. Pahre was a Hubble Fellow and a member of the team that developed the InfraRed Array Camera for the Spitzer Space Telescope. Dr. Pahre holds a Ph.D. in astronomy from Caltech.
